Khamir is an NGO which works to strengthen and promote the rich artisanal traditions of Kutch district. They envision to create a democratic and empowering space – a common roof under which a range of stakeholders can exchange ideas and collaborate. To create a vibrant, sustainable Indian craft sector in which crafts and artisan alike are highly valued by people worldwide.
To support their vision they wanted to build a craft resource center where they can train & educate the artisans as well as promote & display the crafts of Kutch. The site was designed by former dean of CPET, Ahmedabad Prof. Neelkanth Chaya. He wanted to use the techniques developed by Hunnarshala such as stabilized rammed earth construction, CSEB, wattle and doub, lime plaster & country tile roofing in its construction. The project was executed by the trained artisans from hunnarshala under their guidance and management.
This residential project was designed by Mr Dhaval Mistry and Vishal Mehta. Their awareness about the benefits of the rammed earth wall construction inspired them to use the same in their construction. The artisans... |
